GETTING TO KNOW OUR MEMBERS.... ONE MEMBER AT A TIME, ft. Kim Gunn.

Meet Kim Gunn, Student Advisor, Eastern Oklahoma County Tech Center located in Choctaw, OK.

Within the narratives of educational empowerment, the story of Kim Gunn shines brightly as a beacon of compassion, dedication, and family devotion. For over three decades, Kim has been at the forefront of transforming lives through education, particularly within the realms of special education and career development.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Kim exhibited an early affinity for understanding and assisting others. This innate empathy laid the foundation for a career dedicated to uplifting those often marginalized by societal norms.

After completing her Master’s degree in Education from University of Central Oklahoma, Kim embarked on her teaching journey at Jones Public Schools. For 24 years, she served as a pillar of support and knowledge within the special education community. Kim worked tirelessly to ensure that every student, regardless of their challenges, had access to quality education and the tools necessary to thrive. Her classrooms were not just spaces of learning but sanctuaries of inclusivity and encouragement.

But Kim's impact extended beyond the classroom walls. As a cheer coach, she brought boundless energy and enthusiasm, fostering teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence among her athletes. The cheers echoed not just in the gymnasium but in the hearts of those she mentored.

In 2015, Kim embraced a new challenge, transitioning to the role of Student Advisor at Eastern Oklahoma County Career Tech in Choctaw. Here, she found a fresh avenue to channel her passion for helping students grow. During the last eight years, she guided young adults through the maze of career choices, academic pursuits, and personal growth. Her office is a refuge for those seeking direction, support, and unwavering belief in their potential.

Amidst her professional endeavors, Kim remained steadfast in commitment to family. Alongside her husband, Barry, she raised two remarkable children, now grown adults charting their own paths in the world. Kim is looking forward to her new role as “Sassy” to her first grandchild expected in September.

As she continues to work in her community, Kim holds tight to the desire to inspire students to reach their full potential through education and empowerment.
