GETTING TO KNOW OUR MEMBERS.... ONE MEMBER AT A TIME, ft. Kennell Winrow

Kennell Winrow is a dedicated Professional and Educator with over 24 years of experience. She is located at Metro Tech’s downtown campus. Her journey began in nursing, but a phobia of germs led her to an alternate path. She began working in Human Resources and managed four counseling sites. Not knowing what she wanted to do, she eventually became employed as a classroom assistant at Metro Tech where she worked as an adjunct instructor and advanced on to administrative assistant and specialist roles. Kennell utilized the benefits to advance her education and received her bachelor’s then master’s in Educational Leadership.  She currently works with neurodivergent and disabled students. Every day is a great day. Kennel says she is “constantly reminded of how blessed I am, and to have an opportunity to change the trajectory of our students in special populations, I am humbled.”

Kennell has three children who are now adults. Her oldest daughter Deprecia works in credit and is an airflight attendant for Delta airlines. Her son Deondre is in the Air Force and is certified as an AMP maintenance tech. Her youngest Danielle is an esthetician. She has six grandchildren: one girl and five boys. Her hope is to pave a way for all of them to have great opportunities for their future.

When asked to share more about herself outside of work, Kennell answered “My favorite pass time is helping the elderly.  I find that a lot of them are left to feel they have no say so.” One of her fondest memories was taking a large amount of her savings, renting an MPV, Airbnb, creating baskets of all the hygiene that was needed, along with providing an itinerary that included some of the best eating spots in Texas. She took four of her elders and told them to pretend she was a millionaire. “I gave them money to shop and fed them and tipped waiters. I drove them to places so they could be entertained and pampered. I wish I could do it again, but they drained me financially. I didn’t regret any of it, mission accomplished.”

Kennell’s passion is people. People give her energy and help her to love life a little more. So, all she wants to do is help and create more smiles. We are here to help the ones who look up to us and if nothing more to give them someone to look up to. As long as I am breathing my job is never done.”
